The worst were those who played the game of thrones.

“And it is important that the individual books refer to the civil wars, but the series title reminds us constantly that the real issue lies in the North beyond the Wall.” —GRRM

“The common people pray for rain, healthy children, and a summer that never ends,” Ser Jorah told her. “It is no matter to them if the high lords play their game of thrones, so long as they are left in peace.” He gave a shrug. “They never are.” -Jorah, AGoT

“Why is it always the innocents who suffer most, when you high lords play your game of thrones?” -Varys, AGoT

#like this gets at what troubles me most about the adaptation #is that they find the game of thrones far more interesting than its effects on the world at large #which tinges all the scenes with a nihilism that isn’t present in the books #because the show seems to lack a perspective on the game itself #playing it as the most essential thing #instead of the best encapsulation of human folly (via waverlyrowan)
